Chinese Taipei, Dominican Republic advance to Super Round of U-15 Baseball World Cup


DAVID/CHITRÉ, Panama –Dominican Republic earned the third seed in Group B, securing a spot in the Super Round after an 11-2 win the Netherlands.

Advancing from Group B are Cuba (5-0), Japan (4-1) and Dominican Republic (3-2).

Chinese Taipei (4-1) became the first nation from Group A to qualify for the Super Round after they defeated No. 19 Germany (0-4), 6-3.

Brazil, Panama and United States will all be in action on Wednesday to fight for the two remaining spots in the Super Round.

Chinese Taipei 6, Germany 3

Hao-Yu Lee belted a two-run homer in the third inning and Ying-Chieh Mao added a two-run double in the sixth to lead Chinese Taipei to a 6-3 win over Germany.

Six different pitchers took the mound for Chinese Taipei including Wang-Hsi Lin who tossed two innings and had one strikeout to pick up the win.

Tristan Russell accounted for two of Germany’s runs coming on an RBI single in the fifth inning and bases loaded walk in the seventh.

Germany starting pitcher Paul Schmitz took the loss.

Dominican Republic 11, Netherlands 2

Oscar Aude Castillo and Esterlyn Sanchez Ramirez both homered as the Dominican Republic’s offense produced 15 hits en route to an 11-2 win over the Netherlands.

Castillo’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning off Netherlands’ starting pitcher Arlison Rodriguez who ended up taking the loss.

Cristofer Gomez Cruz worked five innings for the Dominican Republic to earn the win striking out four batters while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk.

USA 4, Panama 1

Brady House homered in the first inning and later earned the save to lead USA over host Panama, 4-1. After issuing a walk to load the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh, House managed to get a force out at third base to end the contest.

USA added to their lead in the second on a Cody Schrier two-run single before Reginald Preciado Arauz’s RBI single in the fourth plated Panama’s only run of the ballgame.

USA starting pitcher Cale Lansville tossed 5.1 innings and had three strikeouts in getting the win while Panama’s Pedro Muñoz took the loss.

Japan 20, South Africa 0

Japan turned in a dominant performance in all areas of the game using 17 hits while limiting South Africa to just one hit in a 20-0 win.

Starting pitcher Kyohei Akiyama struck out ten batters over three innings of work and Sohi Kiyota had five strikeouts while allowing just one hit to earn the win.

Eleven of 14 batters that Japan sent to the plate recorded hits including Yuito Suzuki who homered as part of a four-run fourth inning.

South Africa starter Jordan Stopforth allowed six earned runs and suffered the loss.
