U-15 Baseball World Cup: USA tops Japan to set up Final with host nation Panama

DAVID, Panama – Top-ranked USA defeated Japan, 8-2, Saturday to win the Super Round and advance to the Final of the U-15 Baseball World Cup 2018.

USA’s win against Japan also placed Panama into Sunday’s finale For the Title of World Champion. Panama and the U.S. met in the bronze medal match at the 2016 edition in Iwaki, Japan, with the U.S. coming away on top.

With Panama and USA locked into the World Championship Final, a new World Champion will be crowned. Cuba won the last two editions, fielding the top u-15 baseball team on the planet in 2014 and 2016.

USA’s Schrier shines

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Cody Schrier belted a solo home run – his second in as many days — and Ryan Spikes followed later in the frame with a two-run double to left-centre to give USA a lead that they would not relinquish.

Reliever Samuel Dutton took care of the rest tossing three scoreless innings allowing just one walk while striking out two to get the win before USA struck for four more runs in the sixth highlighted by a Brady House three-run double.

Japan starting pitcher Shinnosuke Kanai took the loss after holding USA off the scoreboard for three innings before they chased him from the game in the fourth.
